Which course is the easiest to ride a fast time on? We quantify each course's terrain, technical demands and typical race-day weather into a single 0–100 speed score: 100 = ideal conditions for a fast time (flat, cool, calm, few turns).
Climbing density (metres of elevation gain per km) × 1.8. The more you climb, the more energy it costs to hold speed; this is the heaviest-weighted of the four factors.
Density of "effective turns" × 0.13: only heading changes of more than 25° within a single segment count, so only turns that force you to slow down cost points; the natural curvature of country roads does not. A U-turn counts as 180° in one go.
1.2 points off per degree above 24°C on race day; below 10°C also costs a little. Temperature is the five-year observed average for that race's dates.
Typical race-day wind speed × 2.2: the direct resistance of headwinds plus the handling and position cost of crosswinds. Also the five-year observed average for the same dates.
How to read the score: speed score = 100 − the sum of the four factor deductions (floor 30). The rankings use typical race-day conditions: Terrain and Technical come from the measured course track, Heat and Wind from the five-year observed weather average for that race's dates; a few courses without race-date data include Terrain and Technical only. Once you pick an exact race date in the Console, the system swaps Heat and Wind for that day's hourly forecast and rescores. The score compares how easy a course is to ride fast, not how fast you will be. Your finish prediction comes from the power plan.
